For the individual research of the project, I will compile all my progressive research into this post. I have decided to compare Children Cancer Foundation(CCF) with Believe In Tomorrow Children’s Foundation. Both are non-profitable organization that help poor and sick children. CCF is establish in SIngapore during 1992. Its aim in creating the organization is simple, help children who have cancer and their families and support them as much as they can, making their life less stress/troublesome/hardship. How?? By helping them through enhancing their emotional, social and medical well-being. It has been 18 years since they began. In order to be well known organization, CCF needs to raise awareness with the public. In my opinion, the best and fastest way to promote and raise CCF’s awareness is through new social media tools. Examples are Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and many more. Currently, since CCF is still not well known, their website is not up-to-date, not using 2.0 media tools and lack in using social media tools.

First and foremost, CCF should raise awareness by using Facebook. WHY?? Well, Facebook is the most well known social media and a free social networking whereby CCF can advertise and raise awareness for their organisation. Facebook features can help CCF to raise awareness. In addition, Facebook is user friendly, meaning it is easy to use. Photos, videos can be posted in Facebook. CCf can use this to show other users about their organisation. Events(a feature in facebook) can help CCF to tell other Facebook users to check and know any upcoming events that CCF is going to held. Comments by other users will help CCF to improve and be a better organisation. Comparing Facebook with advertisements, using Facebook is a much faster, cheaper and efficient way to raise awareness. Why? In order to make an advertisement, it will take time and money for it to be advertise in TV. Not only that, to those who are interested and wants to see CCF’s advertisement, they won’t know when CCF’s advertisement will be shown. Nowadays, more people are watching movies, videos online. Therefore, advertising online will be a greater advantage as compared to TC advertisements.

Next, Twitter can also help CCF to raise awareness. What is Twitter and why? Twitter is also a free social networking. In addition, Twitter is also a microblogging service whereby users can send or read messages/information which is known as Tweet. With an increase in the amount of people using Twitter, since it is fast, easy and efficient, raising awareness with Twitter will be an advantage for CCF. Twitter is best use for event information or maybe changes made to an event where simply you can just write the time changed or the location changed. As compared to sms/emails, Twitter would be a better choice to raise awareness. Why? Nowadays, sms can be very expensive and hard to track while emails can be time consuming just to open an email, not mentioning replying to it. Therefore, Twitter is definitely a better choice in order for CCF to raise awareness.

Lastly, Youtube. Youtube is the largest online video community whereby anyone can upload a video and be viewed by people all over the world. CCF should use youtube to raise its awareness as it is a better choice than tv advertisements. CCF can create a channel to post all their videos and update it from there. People who have subscribe to CCF’s channel will be notified everytime CCF updates their channel. Also, any updates made by CCF can also be known at the homepage of youtube. A comment section is also available which allows people to comment on the videos, providing feedback. CCF can also track whether they have raise awareness by seeing the number of views. The higher it is, the better CCF’s awareness is.

With the use of social media tools, Believe In Tomorrow Children’s Foundation have done a wonderful job in creating awareness and still raising its awareness by using social media tools. CCF should use social media tools to be a better organisation. Raising its awareness and constantly updating on what they do will not only attract more people but prevent loss of volunteers. Using social media tools is faster, cheaper and more efficient. With the growing use of Internet, CCF should take advantage of the situation and work towards a better organisation. Experts can teach employees how to maintain the social media tools and preventing harsh comments made by the people.

Starlight – Facebook

Starlight children foundation is an organisation which helps children who is diagnosed with serious illness and help improve their quality of life. How?? The organisation helps cope with the pain, fear of the children through entertainment, education, and family activities to help them. With new social media, they can advertise all their events, latest news, help wanted etc through Twitter, Facebook, blogs etc. But the network that I will be focusing on is Facebook. Facebook is a free social networking whereby people can advertise and raise awareness of their organisation. In addition, the organisation can track whether their advertisement have attract “customers” through comments/number of users/views.  Facebook can also linked/post videos which will help in advertising their organisation.  Applications such as games or quiz can also help in raising awareness for Facebook users. Also, photos can also be posted in Facebook to show what they have done in events or show what situation they are in if they need help from the public. Besides that, Facebook also allow donations to be made. For those who have become “friends” with a certain organisation, Starlight in this case, is known as fans. In summary, Facebook has the whole package to promote and raise awareness for any organisation. As for the Facebook account that Starlight has, there are 2437 fans.  Information posted on Facebook is also up-to-date as the most recent post by them is 11hours ago. They also linked to other Starlight websites from the Facebook account. Events that Starlight is going to host are posted and updated in Facebook and can allow Facebook users to tell Starlight whether or not they want to attend the event. These shows how affective they are in promoting their websites and how they manage to use a social media network to spread their information.

I think Facebook is a better choice in promoting Starlight instead of using advertisements. Why?? First and foremost, using advertisements required money which can be expensive. It will be better if the money is used to help the children. Secondly, making the advertisements will be time consuming and if there are any updates, they will need to make new advertisements which are troublesome. Hence, using Facebook will be advantage to them.

In comparison to Starlight’s use of Facebook and Children Cancer Foundation (CCF), CCF can use Facebook to create and raise awareness because they have not use Facebook. In using Facebook, they can definitely raise awareness because Facebook is used by millions of people. They can first target their audience and focus their events for them to take part. Fans of CCF can read about the events in detail and can decide whether they want to take part or not. Also they can update easily when using Facebook and fans can easily view them. Also, if there is any upcoming event, fans can easily know as they will be automatically reminded.  Donations can also be made through Facebook. Those facebook users who are not fans can also view and do what fans can do. Hence, there would be more attention for Children Cancer foundation.

5 key points mentioned during lecture:

1)Having a portfolio of all our work is very important

2)Using Facebook/Twitter will be an advantage in promoting oneself’s work

3)Being a freelancer will not be easy

4)Blogging will help in advertising own products

5)Meeting deadline given by client for a freelancer is important

What inspired me from his talk is that when he was around our age, he started freelancing and work hard to become what he had become now. Im really inspired as he can juggle between school work and freelancing, including the pressure of finishing the freelance work by the deadline given by the client . He is also the co-founder of Ripplewerkz. Very little people around our age can be a co-founder of a company. Also knowing the difference between school life and working life is important and is good that he mentioned it. Because some of us dunno the reality of working.

Finally, it is very useful to have a guest speaker coming to our school, sacrificing some of his time to tell about his experience. To know and get feel of the outside world will be knowledgeable  for us later on.

After quite a while, I have decided to the the online article submission

I have read a few articles on mashable.com and the articles “Portable Gaming: Can Apple Take Down Nintendo And Sony?” and “Game Console Makers Feeling The Heat From Apple”  have grab my attention. So I decided to comment on this articles as they are related to each other. So this review will be about this 2 article.

First of all, these article are talking about whether Apple is going to be able to better than Nintendo and Sony in gaming terms. Phil Schiller reminded everyone that a PSP and DS doesn’t have a touch-user interface. Also, the games for both console are quite expensive as compared to a game on a iPhone/iPod. By saying that, it means that games on the iPhone/iPod are much more as compared to PSP and DS. Althought there are alot of games, gamers sometimes look at its graphics or details of the game. However, the are some people who will play iPhone/iPod games just for time to past and perhaps are more interactive to them as compared to a PSP and DS.

Secondly, people will want to play a game on an iPhone/iPod because the games are much more cheaper. It will go as low as $0.99 or free. Looking at how the economy is right now, some people will buy iPhone/iPod games. However, hardcore gamers will still go for console games just because the feelings of playing it is different. Plus, in terms of graphics are different. In addition, iPhone/iPod games may be too short as compared to a PSP or DS games

In my opinion, I will still go for a PSP/DS games rather than iPhone/iPOd games because graphics are an important factor to me. Currently, iPhone/iPod games graphics cant be compared to PSP/DS games. Plus, I will prefer a DS than iPhone/iPod in terms of interactivity as DS games are much more fun. But if maybe in coming years, Apple managed to create graphics that is better or the same as Sony and Nintendo, then I will just play all of them and gauge myself which is the best that i would play/bring if i went anywhere.

But maybe 10 years later, there will be only 1 console that will fulfilled most of people desired in playing a game on a portable gadget. Will be waiting for that day :D
